In September and October, you will have the opportunity to help us develop small area plans for four areas within East Baton Rouge Parish. Small area plans translate the big ideas from the comprehensive plan down to the neighborhood level. These workshops will give you the opportunity to comment on the need for public facilities or physical improvements, opportunities for infill or redevelopment, and opportunities for transportation connections and transit supportive development.
Workshop Schedule (tentative):
Mid City - Sept. 21st, 6:30-8:30pm at BRCC
Southwest Medical - Sept. 6:30-8:30pm, Location TBD
In the next few weeks, we will announce the date for a scenario roll out event in early November. At the event, you will have the opportunity to tell us what you like or don’t like about four different scenarios that show future land use and development possibilities. You will select the best parts of the scenarios and we will use your input to develop the plan for the Parish. Your input is critical to the success of the plan!
New Transit Study
FUTUREBR now includes a transit study that will examine the transit system and make detailed recommendations about the future of transit in East Baton Rouge parish. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved!
John Fregonese appeared on WBRZ-Baton Rouge to talk about the FutureBR workshops, his experiences with cities around the country, and next steps for the project.

Florida Boulevard focus of planning meetings
The Advocate By Chad Calder Advocate Business Writer April 8th, 2010
Florida Boulevard drew much of the attention at public planning workshops held last month, with participants showing an interest in the corridor not just as an important traffic artery, but as a strong candidate for rail and bus lines, infill residential development and neighborhood revitalization.
That was chief among the preliminary findings presented tonight by Fregonese Associates, the Portland, Ore.-based planning consultant hired by the city-parish to revamp East Baton Rouge Parish’s land use and development plan.
We had a great turnout at the FUTUREBR workshops this week. There were over 250 people at the first FUTUREBR workshop at the River Center and a great turnout at the Thursday workshops at Woodlawn and Redemptorist High Schools as well. Your input is invaluable to the future of the East Baton Rouge Parish Plan. If you haven't already, sign up to become a citizen planner to get updates on the plan as we compile your feedback to shape the plan!
The East Baton Rouge Comprehensive Plan or “FUTUREBR” is an opportunity to shape future growth in the city and parish over the next 30 years. This project is based on an inclusive, parish-wide process to craft a new vision, policy framework, and implementation strategies that reflect the needs and aspirations of parish citizens.
